Win against Slane earns quarter-final place

St Ultans secured their place in the quarter finals of the Junior Championship with a comprehensive victory over Slane in Dunganny on Friday night.

Ultans pointed on their first attack with Mark Allen splitting the posts. Another Mark Allen point and a goal from midfielder Darragh Reilly left Ultans leading by five inside the first three minutes. Slane responded with a point but Ultans were dominating possession and five further efforts all from play left Ultans leading by nine at the water break with the points coming from Gearoid Rennicks, Emmet Costello, Ronan Breslin, Tommy Buchanan and Mark Allen. Slane responded with a well taken goal from play and the sides exchanged points before the half time whistle with the Ultans efforts from a long range free from Gearoid Rennicks and a point each from Ruairi and Tommy Buchanan.

Ultans extended their lead further with four points before the water break with the Ultans defending resolutely conceding just two points. Ultans finished the game strongly scoring two further goals from midfielder Darragh Reilly and Mark Allen. Points from Adam Rogers, Gary Rogers and two more from Ruairi Buchanan bringing his tally to five for the night. St Ultans now advance to play Boardsmill in two weeks in the quarter final.
