JFC quarter-final: Ultan’s too strong for Boardsmill

St Ultan’s progressed to the semi-final on the Junior Chamionship with victory over Boardsmill. A minute’s silence took place as a mark of respect to Tom Browne.

Ultan’s dominated the early possession but squandered a number of chances before Cian McBride pointed running onto a great pass from Johnny Foster and firing over the crossbar. Boardsmill’s first score of the game was a goal but Ultan’s responded well as Adam Rogers scored the first of five points from play quickly followed by a goal from midfielder Darragh Reilly leaving Ultan’s two points up at the water break. Ultan’s piled on the pressure and were rewarded with a well taken goal from Cian McBride, Boardsmill responded well with some well taken scores but four points from corner forward Adam Rogers left Ultan’s in control. Two goals shortly before half time from Darragh Reilly and Mark Allen left Ultan’s with a comfortable twelve point lead at the break.

The second half was very competitive with Boardsmill battling hard to stay in the championship, the sides exchanged thirteen points with Ultans outscoring their opponents seven points to six. The Ultan’s scores came from Reilly,  two from McBride, Darren Costello, Mark Allen, Gearoid Rennicks and a ’45 from Gary Rogers. The Ultan’s defence stood strong withstanding pressure from Boardsmill and ran out victors by thirteen points.

St Ultan’s will now face St Vincents in the semi-final on Friday 22 October in Ashbourne.
