St Ultan’s 1-15 St Brigids 2-8
St Ultan’s secured their place in the Junior semi final against Ballivor with a four point win over St Brigid’s.
St Brigid’s opened the scoring but a Mark Allen point drew Ultan’s level, they took the lead with an early goal in the second minute, Emmett Costello slipped the ball to Martin Dolan who drove at the Brigid’s defence and who unselfishly passed to Mark Allen to fist the ball to the net. Brigid’s responded with a point but two scores from play from Johnny Foster and Ronan Breslin left Ultan’s four points up at the water break. Brigid’s battled back well with a goal and a point but Ultan’s enjoyed their best spell of the match approaching half time with the scores from Mark Allen, Gearoid Rennicks, Adam Rogers and Ronan Breslin.
A Gearoid Rennicks free from distance extended Ultan’s lead to six but Brigids responded with three unanswered points. Mark Allen pointed from a free to leave four between the sides at the second half water break. Another free from Mark Allen and a point from play from Johnny Foster left Brigid’s in need of a goal to keep their championship hopes alive. With five minutes to go Brigid’s hit the net and quickly followed with a point from play from Michael Flood. Ronan Breslin pointed from play before a late Rennicks free ensured Ultan’s would run out four point winners.
